Resolve AI competitors: Operate, the self-hosted, read-only option
Updated 7 October 2026
If you are weighing Resolve AI competitors and need an AI SRE that runs inside your own infrastructure, stays read-only and stops at a patch an engineer applies, Operate is built for that. Resolve AI describes itself as an AI SRE that "goes on-call on your behalf and autonomously resolves incidents" (resolve.ai).
The real choice is how much you want the agent to do on its own, and where your production data is allowed to go. Every Resolve AI fact on this page comes from its own site, checked on 7 October 2026.
Operate vs Resolve AI at a glance
| Operate | Resolve AI | |
|---|---|---|
| How it describes itself | "Your self-hosted AI SRE" | "AI SRE platform" that "goes on-call on your behalf and autonomously resolves incidents" |
| Where it runs | A Docker image in your own infrastructure. No new cloud accounts, no SaaS endpoints | Not stated on its homepage or pricing page |
| What it can do in production | Read-only adapters, including repository access. It can't commit, open pull requests, merge or deploy | "Triages and mitigates alerts" and "mitigates and restores service in minutes, not hours" |
| How a fix arrives | A .patch file an engineer reviews and applies | Fixes recurring issues "by finding root problems and giving the production context to coding agents" |
| AI model | Bring your own: Claude, Codex (OpenAI/Azure), an enterprise model or a self-hosted open-source LLM | "Our own domain models and the best frontier models" |
| Pricing | $99/month plus usage, published on operatex.dev | Credit-based. Prices are given on request (pricing) |
| Data and access controls | Only a billing usage record is sent to Operate. Exportable audit log, 365-day default retention | "your data is not used to train models for others"; SAML SSO, RBAC and admin controls; "activity and support access logged" |
How Resolve AI works, in its own words
Resolve AI groups its product into four jobs on its homepage: primary on-call, incident resolutions, issue remediation and production automation. On-call means it "triages and mitigates alerts" and escalates to engineers when needed. For incidents it "identifies the root cause quickly, mitigates and restores service".
For automation, it offers custom SRE agents "for any automation you need, fully managed for you". Its pricing page says credits "are used as ResolveAI agents perform defined types of work across your production environment", and prices are given on request. The homepage names DoorDash, Coinbase and Zscaler among its customer stories.
How Operate works
Operate is the self-hosted AI SRE we build. Four AI agents read your logs, database and code to work out what broke and why, and a second AI model checks every answer before anyone sees it.
It runs as a Docker image alongside your app, with read-only access to everything it connects to. It watches alerts and errors on its own, and anyone on the team can ask it a question from Slack, MS Teams or another chat tool. Every investigation ends at a .patch file. An engineer reviews the evidence, applies the patch and decides what ships. See how Operate keeps your environment safe.
When Resolve AI is the stronger fit
- You want an agent that takes the first on-call shift and mitigates alerts itself.
- You want custom agents for wider production automation, managed by the vendor.
- Its stated controls (SAML SSO, RBAC, logged activity and no training on your data for others) satisfy your security review, and credit-based pricing quoted on request works for you.
When Operate is the stronger fit
- Production telemetry has to stay inside your infrastructure. Operate runs as a Docker image next to your app, with no new cloud accounts.
- Your security review requires read-only access. Operate can't commit, open pull requests, merge or deploy.
- You want to choose the model, including a self-hosted open-source LLM, so investigation context never leaves your network.
- You want published pricing and a self-serve start. Most teams are running within a day.
Other Resolve AI competitors to compare
Resolve AI is one of several AI SREs. We compare the others the same way, from each vendor's own pages:
- Cleric: checks every production change and offers fix pull requests to review.
- Traversal: read-only by default, with bring-your-own-cloud and bring-your-own-model options.
- Rootly AI SRE: built into Rootly's incident management platform.
- Datadog Bits AI SRE: investigates alerts inside Datadog.
- All of them side by side: the best AI SRE tools, compared.
